Now no target is safe in IPL, 220 plus runs chased 8 times this season
The process of easily achieving big targets continues in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. In the 47th match of the season played at Wankhede Stadium on Monday (May 4), Mumbai Indians (MI) completed the chase of 229 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in just 18.4 overs, which was their most successful chase in the IPL.
LSG’s team was looking to cross 250 at one time but its innings faltered in the middle overs, due to which it was not able to score fast runs in the death overs. Despite this, she managed to reach 228 runs, which can be considered a safe score in T20. However, considering the big run chases going on easily in the current season of IPL, the LSG team was not sure of victory. His fear also proved correct. MI achieved the target with 8 balls to spare.

220 plus runs not defended for the 8th time
How easy it has become to execute big run chases in IPL 2026 can be gauged from the figure that for the eighth time no team could defend more than 220 runs. Before this season, there had been 220 plus chases only 5 times in IPL.
Of the top-5 run chases in IPL history, 4 have happened this season. Punjab Kings (PBKS) chased 265 runs in 18.5 overs against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 25, which was the most successful run chase not only in IPL but also in T20 history. Four days later, on April 29, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) achieved the target of 244 runs in 18.4 overs against MI at Wankhede.
Earlier, SRH had successfully chased the target of 229 runs against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the night match on April 25 at Jaipur ground. Now, by achieving the target of 229 runs, MI has again started the debate whether IPL is left only for batsmen?
