Navi Mumbai / Siddhesh Pradhan : The Government of India has announced the Census Program 2027 and the final period of the Census Program is till 31st March 2027. India has a tradition of conducting census every ten years and the first census was conducted in 1872. The 2027 census is the 16th census, the 8th census of India since independence and the 3rd census of the 21st century. This census is being done in two separate phases and in the first phase, household list and household enumeration d. It will be conducted from 16 May 2026 to 14 June 2026 and the second phase will be conducted in February / March 2027.

Census 2027 is India’s first digital census and is a transformative step towards modernization of census process. Field level enumerators and supervisors will collect data using their own mobile devices for data collection and record the data digitally on the central server.

For Census 2027, the Municipal Commissioner will be the ‘Principal Census Officer’ and the Deputy Commissioner (Circle-2) will be the ‘City Census Officer’. All Divisional Officers and Assistant Commissioners shall be ‘Charge Census Officers’. They will be assisted in census work by ‘Additional Charge Census Officers’.

Self-enumeration option will be available 15 days prior to commencement of actual field work i.e. from 1st May 2026 to 15th May 2026. Self-enumeration is an innovative and easy and convenient option for citizens. It allows citizens to fill their family information online by themselves using a secure web portal at their convenience. Citizens should visit the online portal (sc.census.gov.in) for this.

Questions and options in the census portal are similar to the HLO mobile app and respondents are assisted through frequently asked questions and tooltips, once a household has successfully submitted their information, they will receive a unique census ID by selecting their appropriate option from the available options. It is necessary to provide your correct and complete information by showing this SE ID. Your accurate information will determine the direction of progress for years to come. It is not just a census of people but it is the foundation of ‘Developed India 2047’.

According to the Census Act, 1948, the information of every person is kept confidential. Noting that names and identities are not disclosed, this information is not used for any taxation or inspection purposes, all citizens are requested to accept the self-enumeration option and register themselves in the census or cooperate with the officials who come to them for the collection of census information.
