Uttarakhand, also known as Devbhoomi, is one of the major religious places in India. There is an influx of devotees here throughout the year. The most special and popular among these is Char Dham Yatra.
When does Char Dham Yatra take place?
Char Dham Yatra includes four holy sites Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. These temples are situated in the heights of the Himalayas. Every year these temples remain open only for about six months. They generally open in summer (April–May) and close in winter (October–November).
correct order of travel
It is considered auspicious to complete the Char Dham Yatra in a clockwise direction. Therefore the journey starts from Yamunotri, then Gangotri, then Kedarnath and finally Badrinath. The journey can be done by road or air (helicopter service).
Do Dham Yatra is also possible
Some devotees visit only Kedarnath and Badrinath. Yamunotri Temple: Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, near the source of Yamuna river in Uttarkashi district. Gangotri Temple: Located in Uttarkashi district, dedicated to Goddess Ganga. Kedarnath Temple: Dedicated to Lord Shiva in Rudraprayag district. Badrinath Temple: The sacred Badrinarayan temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The journey – both divine and challenging, the Char Dham Yatra is as divine as it is difficult.
