Now the next target is set… After T20 World Cup victory, Sky said, will give my all
Ahmedabad. After leading India to its third T20 World Cup title, Suryakumar Yadav has now set his sights on winning a gold medal at the 2028 Olympic Games. Suryakumar said in the press conference held after the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, “Obviously the journey of the last one month has been very wonderful.
Although it did not start the way we wanted, but that is also a part of the game. This journey from the beginning till today has been very special and whatever we have achieved as a team, I think it is right in front of you (the trophy). So, I am very happy with it and now our next target is Olympic gold, and our team will work towards that.”
With cricket being included in the roster by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the first time since the Paris 1900 Olympics, six teams each in both men’s and women’s categories will compete for Olympic medals between July 14 and 29 in 2028. Based on the current ICC T20 rankings, India are certain to qualify from Asia in both the men’s and women’s competitions. All matches will be held at Fairgrounds Stadium, a temporary and purpose-built venue in the city of Pomona, about 50 kilometers from Los Angeles.
The Indian men’s team is currently the defending champion of the Champions Trophy and T20 World Cup titles. Suryakumar considered the 2024 T20 World Cup win in Barbados under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma as a turning point. Suryakumar said, “After 2024, everything changed. We played a different kind of cricket in 2024 and from there we understood how this team needs to work, how to play and since then it has been a wonderful journey. We won the Champions Trophy in 2025, played a completely different kind of cricket, and now in 2026, we wanted to do something special in front of our home crowd. So we continued this series. Want to continue in 2027, 2028, 2029 and never stop.
