New Delhi. From the new year 2025, WhatsApp service is being discontinued on some Android Smartphones. Meta has announced that WhatsApp will not work on many Android smartphones running KitKat OS or older versions from January 1, 2025. This move is part of the company's strategy to maintain the security of the app.

Android KitKat, which was launched in 2013, is now quite old and smartphones running on it have stopped receiving security updates. Due to this, the security risk has increased for the users running WhatsApp on their smartphones. Since most smartphones now run on fairly recent versions of Android, WhatsApp ending support means that WhatsApp will no longer provide services such as updates, bug fixes or security patches to the device. Samsung
Samsung's smartphones include models like Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy Ace 3.
Motorola
Motorola company's smartphones include Moto G, Moto RAZR HD and Moto E 2014.
HTC
HTC smartphones include models like HTC One X, HTC One X+, HTC Desire 500 and HTC Desire 601.
LG
WhatsApp will not work on LG smartphones LG Optimus G, LG Nexus 4, LG G2 Mini and LG L90.
Sony
People using Sony phones like Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia SP, Sony Xperia T and Sony Xperia V will not be able to use WhatsApp.
According to WhatsApp, the app will work only on Android 5.0 and newer Android phones, iOS 12 and newer iPhones. The company had earlier announced that iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users will no longer be able to use WhatsApp on their devices. However, iPhone users can upgrade their devices till May 5, 2025.
