New Delhi:- A historic step has been taken to increase telecom access, security and empowerment across India. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia has introduced a set of citizen-centric initiatives aimed at transforming the telecom landscape of the country. Sanchar Sathi mobile app, National Broadband Mission 2.0 launched. Inaugurated intra circle roaming facility on 4G mobile sites funded by Digital Bharat Fund (DBN).
Launch of Sanchar Saathi mobile app
Sanchar Sathi mobile app is a user-friendly platform designed to enhance telecom security and empower citizens. Speaking at the launch, Scindia stressed on its importance and said that this initiative not only gives access to opportunities. But also ensures a safe environment for all users.
Available for both Android and iOS, the app provides important tools to protect telecom resources and combat fraud. Its main features include.

Reporting of suspected fraudulent communications – Users can report fraudulent calls and SMS directly from their mobile phone logs.

Know mobile connections in your name- Citizens can monitor and manage all the mobile connections issued in their name to prevent unauthorized usage.

Blocking lost or stolen mobile handsets – The app enables users to block, trace and recover lost or stolen mobile devices.

Verifying the authenticity of mobile handsets – A facility to check the genuineness of mobile handsets ensures that consumers purchase legitimate devices.

With over 90 crore smartphone users in India, the app is set to significantly prevent telecom fraud and enhance the security and reliability of telecom networks across the country.
National Broadband Mission 2.0: Promoting Digital Inclusion
Building on the success of NBM 1.0, which installed nearly 8 lakh telecom towers and increased broadband subscriptions from 66 crore to 94 crore, the Union Minister unveiled the National Broadband Mission 2.0 (NBM 2.0). The initiative aims to connect the remaining 1.7 lakh villages across the country and achieve ambitious digital milestones.

Jyotiraditya M Scindia stressed that our aim is to ensure that out of every 100 rural households, at least 60 households have broadband connectivity. We also aim to have a minimum fixed broadband download speed of 100 Mbps, thereby creating a strong digital infrastructure for rural India.

The main objectives of NBM 2.0 include

Expanding optical fiber cable (OFC) connectivity to 2.7 lakh villages by 2030, ensuring 95 percent uptime.

Providing broadband access to 90 percent of major institutions like schools, healthcare centers and panchayat offices.

To increase the number of rural internet subscribers from 45 to 60 per 100 population by 2030.

To operate 30 percent of mobile towers on sustainable energy by 2030.

Facilitate nationwide 5G rollout and prepare infrastructure for 6G networks.

The mission is in line with Prime Minister Modi's vision of a digitally inclusive and resilient India by 2047, which boosts economic opportunities and improves access to education, healthcare and e-governance services.

Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) feature: Reducing the connectivity gap
The inauguration of Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) facility on 4G mobile sites funded by DBN is another milestone in bridging the digital divide. This initiative allows customers of multiple telecom service providers to access 4G services from a single DBN-funded tower.
