Now you will get oxygen without trees! Liquid Tree SALT, the first mobile phone in India, what is the new technology? Read in detail
- Scientists in India have developed the country’s first mobile liquid tree called the Smart Algal Liquid Tree (SALT).
- This technology works with the help of microalgae to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen through photosynthesis.
- The technology has been developed as a complementary solution for urban and polluted areas where reforestation is not possible.
Air pollution has become one of the biggest problems in the country these days. Many people are getting sick due to air pollution especially in cities. Air pollution is also affecting children. Considering the increasing air pollution, scientists have now developed a technology, with the help of which people can now get more oxygen. Actually it is not possible to plant trees in every place. This is why scientists have created a mobile liquid tree. Now let’s know what this technology is and how it will help.

The country’s first liquid tree
According to media reports, scientists at CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research have created India’s first mobile liquid tree. The new technology is called Smart Algal Liquid Tree (SALT). It aims to improve air quality in big cities and heavily polluted areas. (Photo Courtesy: X)
How will it help to reduce pollution?
Smart Algal Liquid Tree (SALT) works very similar to trees. It is said that when polluted air is exposed to the system, the carbon dioxide in it is absorbed by microalgae. After this, oxygen is released into the air through the process of photosynthesis. Not only this, another special thing about this system is that this technology is based only on sunlight. Also, this technology can easily work on artificial light if needed.
How does this technology work?
SALT stands for Smart Algal Liquid Tree is a small and portable air purification system. In which very small microalgae are used along with the water. This technology replicates the process of photosynthesis in a closed system. The project has already been set up at the CSIR-CIMFR campus at Dhanbad in Jharkhand and the Northern Coalfields Limited campus at Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh. Its biggest advantage is its mobility, i.e. it can be easily moved from one place to another.

What do scientists think?
Scientists are of the opinion that the purpose of this technology is to use this technology in places where it is impossible to completely plant trees. But this technology cannot be used in places where planting of trees is possible or where trees are already planted. This technology was developed only as an alternative, not to replace real trees.
