Chamoli District Panchayat has done an innovative experiment to reduce the fear of bears. Medicine named Danger is being distributed in rural areas. Officials have claimed that by spraying this medicine on the roads and borders of the villages, bears will not be able to come towards the populated areas. Along with the medicine, the District Panchayat has also purchased 60 machines for its spraying.
There is fear of bear in Chamoli district from urban to rural areas. So far the bear has killed four people in Badrinath and Kedarnath forest divisions, while injuring about 24 people. The bear has also devoured more than 100 cattle.
The fear of bears has increased so much that people are being confined to their homes in the evening. The District Panchayat also cut the bushes on the footpaths in the rural areas, despite this the fear of bears did not reduce. Now the District Panchayat has purchased a medicine named Danger. It is in the form of liquid and granular medicine. District Panchayat President Daulat Singh Bisht distributed this medicine and spraying machine in ten gram panchayats of Nandanagar development block as a trial.
Due to the pungent odor of this medicine, the bear changes its stance. The medicine will be sprayed in the border areas and common roads of the villages. If the results of this pilot project are good, it will be distributed in all the villages of the district. 60 machines have been ordered for spraying medicine. – Tej Singh, Additional Chief Officer, District Panchayat

Chief Development Officer Dr. Abhishek Tripathi distributed packets of dangerous medicines to the villagers in the Vikas Bhawan complex. He said that many rural areas of the district are affected by the problem of wild animals, in such a situation this initiative will prove useful for the farmers. He directed the concerned officials to make the villagers aware about the correct use of the medicine.
