Oh hey hey! ‘This’ car clears in safety test; Only got 2 star rating, company broke sweat

  • Maruti Baleno performs poorly in safety tests
  • It received a 2-star safety rating in the Latin NCAP crash test
  • Increase in company tension

Earlier, while buying a car, customers paid more attention to the mileage and price of the car. However, today’s customer is also paying attention to the safety features in the car while buying a car. Considering this demand of the customers, many auto companies offer cars with better safety features and technology. Also, many companies also conduct safety tests of their cars to win the trust of customers. However, doing the same safety test Maruti Suzuki has come under the arm. In this test, the car has been damaged.

The India-made Suzuki Baleno received a 2-star safety rating in the Latin NCAP crash test released in December 2025. It is the same Baleno that is manufactured in India and exported to the Latin American market. It’s worth noting that this rating only applies to models sold in Latin NCAP regions.

Crash test results of Baleno in Latin NCAP

In Latin NCAP’s safety test, the car scored 79% for adult occupant protection, while a score of 65% was recorded for child occupant protection. The Baleno scores 48% for pedestrian safety and 58% in the safety assist category.

6 airbags were provided in Suzuki Baleno tested by Latin NCAP. During the testing, it is clear that the bodyshell of the car is stable, and it is also mentioned that it is capable of bearing the additional load in the future. Safety ratings for adult occupants ranged from ‘good’ to ‘adequate’ in frontal and side impact tests. Also, whiplash protection has been given a ‘Good’ rating in the rear impact test.

The Baleno comes equipped with essential safety features like ESC, seatbelt reminders for all seats and ISOFIX child seat mounts. However, ADAS features are very important in the Latin NCAP rating. This model lacked advanced safety features like AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking), Lane Assist, Speed Assist and Blind Spot Detection. The lack of these features limited the Safety AssistScore, which did not increase the overall star rating.

In India, however, it got a 4-star safety rating

Interestingly, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno tested in India under India NCAP received a 4-star rating for both the 2-airbag and 6-airbag variants. This clearly shows that testing protocols, scoring systems and safety features requirements vary between countries and regions. As a result, the same car can get different star ratings under different NCAPs.

Latin NCAP also clarified that this rating only applies to the Baleno sold in the Latin American market. Moreover, the car being tested was manufactured in India, indicating that India is an important global manufacturing hub for Maruti Suzuki.
