‘Oil is leaking from the bonnet of your car..’ By diverting attention, a member of the ‘Spray Gang’ gang touched the gold jewellery, caught by the police.
Delhi Police has arrested a 19-year-old criminal thief who stole gold jewelery from a car by diverting attention. The accused distracted the attention of the family members by spraying some chemical and then ran away with the bag. Giving information about this on Saturday, the police said that the accused has been identified as Jafar, a resident of Sangam Vihar area. After this incident which happened on February 6, the family had lodged a complaint with the police. It is said that the accused, along with his associates, had carried out the entire incident with great precision.
Some chemical was sprayed inside the car
According to the information given by the police, the complainant Bhabhuti Prasad Sharma was traveling in a car with his family, when a person signaled him to stop and said that oil was leaking from the bonnet of his car. When Sharma stopped to check the car, another person distracted him. Meanwhile, Jafar sprayed some chemical inside the car due to which the family members started coughing violently and they were forced to get out of the car. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Jafar stole a bag full of gold jewelery kept in the car and fled on a motorcycle.
Accused caught after scanning CCTV
After receiving information about the incident, the police immediately registered a case and started investigation. The investigation team carefully examined the footage of more than 50 CCTV cameras installed around the incident site. The footage showed suspicious motorcycle movement, following which, with the help of technical surveillance and local sources, the police identified the accused and arrested him. Police have recovered the stolen gold jewelery from Jafar’s possession and have also seized the motorcycle used in the crime.
Jafar used to do such work for personal expenses
When the police interrogated Jafar about this, he confessed to the crime. He told that one of his associates was also involved in this incident, who is still absconding. The accused said that he committed this theft with the intention of earning quick money for his personal expenses. The police is now busy searching for the absconding accomplice and is investigating the case in depth. Let us tell you that even before this, there have been reports of similar incidents being carried out by ‘Spray Gang’ in Delhi.
