Ola-Uber-Rapido bike taxis completely closed, why did the government take big action, know the reason

New Delhi: There is a big crisis on bike taxi services in Maharashtra. The state government has banned bike taxi services of companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido. The temporary licenses of these companies have been canceled with immediate effect. Now their bike taxi services have stopped in the entire state including Mumbai. This is a big shock for passengers and drivers.

Why did the government ban

The government had given temporary permission to these companies only on the condition of running electric bike taxis. The aim was to promote environmental protection and safe transportation, but it is alleged that the companies ran petrol bikes instead of electric ones.

This was considered a clear violation of the rules. During investigation, the Transport Department found that petrol bikes were being used at many places. Despite repeated warnings, the companies did not agree, hence strict action was taken.

One month’s extension was granted

The government had earlier given one month’s time to the companies to submit the necessary documents, but the documents did not arrive on time. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said that now a deadline of one more month has been given.

If the companies do not fulfill all the conditions and submit documents during this period, their licenses may be canceled permanently. The government has made it clear that in future only electric bike taxis will be allowed.

Thousands of bike taxis affected

Thousands of bike taxi drivers have been affected by this decision. Their livelihood is under threat. Passengers are also not able to get cheap and fast service. Bike taxis were very popular in a busy city like Mumbai.

Now people will depend on cabs or autos, which may increase expenses. The government has warned that if a petrol bike taxi is found running, a case will be registered against the driver as well as the bike owner and the bike will be confiscated.

When can services start in future?

Services can start only when the companies completely follow the rules and use only electric bikes. The government’s focus is on eco-friendly transport and safety. If the companies submit the documents soon and accept the conditions, then services can be restored in a few months, but no definite date has been given at present.
