Olympic champion left the match midway, Sindhu in the final of Japan Open for the first time

Double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has reached the finals of the Japan Open Super 750 badminton tournament. In the semi-finals, she faced Chen Yufei of China. Olympic champion Yufei withdrew from the match due to a hamstring injury, giving Sindhu a chance to play the Japan Open final for the first time.

 

When Yufei left the court, Sindhu was leading 21-19, 15-10. With this, Sindhu also broke the streak of 5 consecutive defeats against Yufei. He has made it to the finals of a tournament after more than two years. She last played the final of the Syed Modi International Tournament. Sindhu was the runner-up in the 2024 Malaysia Open Super 500 tournament.
