No-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla
Desk: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has decided that he will not come to the House until the decision on the no-confidence motion brought against him is taken. He has made it clear that he will not sit on the Speaker’s chair, even if efforts are made to persuade him to come to the House. This is not against the status quo rules, yet they have taken this decision.
Possible discussion of no-confidence motion
In the second part of the budget session, the proposal to remove the Speaker is likely to be discussed on March 9. For this, support of fifty MPs will be required. According to sources, Om Birla on Tuesday directed the House Secretary-General to investigate the notice of no-confidence motion and take appropriate action.
no-confidence motion of congress
Congress recently submitted a notice of no-confidence motion against Om Birla. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that he has given a no-confidence motion under Rule 94C. It is reported that a total of 118 MPs have signed this proposal.
Opposition MPs’ allegations
Opposition MPs have accused the Speaker of bias. He says that the Speaker did not allow the opposition leaders to discuss the President’s address. The allegation cites four important incidents in the no-confidence motion notice, including preventing Rahul Gandhi from speaking.
Case of suspension of MPs
According to sources, the opposition MPs also referred to the personal attacks made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on former prime ministers. He drew attention to Om Birla’s statement in which he had advised Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to come to the House so that no untoward incident happens.
