35 year old resident of Tamil Nadu Nishanth Uirthanathan MT was working as a second officer on the Celestial ship. According to the information, he fell ill on 8 June 2026 and died on 11 June 2026 due to medical complications. This entire incident happened at Duqm Port in Oman.

The Indian Embassy in Muscat has expressed deep grief over the death of Nishant. Embassy officials have informed that they are in constant touch with the ship management company and the concerned authorities of Oman. After completing all the necessary paperwork, arrangements are being made to send the body to India as soon as possible.
Serious allegations of delay in treatment
Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) has made serious allegations in this matter. The union says that Nishant could not get timely medical help, due to which his condition worsened. According to the union, medical evacuation was hampered due to missile activity in the area and security reasons. It is also alleged that the body was kept on the ship for several days without proper preservation and the crew members used cold water bottles to keep the body cool. FSUI has demanded an investigation into this matter.
Ship management’s response
On the other end, Romana Ship Management Co Ltd Has termed these allegations as false. The company says that they had informed the Omani authorities on time and made every effort to seek medical assistance by coordinating with the Indian Embassy. The company also said that the ship was advised to go to Shinas Port.
