Oman Marriage Rule: New rule for those getting married in Oman, register the contract before the medical certificate expires, otherwise heavy fine may be imposed.

Oman’s Ministry of Health has issued an important warning for couples getting married. The Ministry has said that the marriage contract should be registered before the expiry of the pre-marital medical certificate. This instruction has been given under Royal Decree No. 111/2025 so that all legal processes can be completed on time.

Medical certificate rules and deadlines

According to the rules, the certificate of medical test conducted before marriage is valid only for three months. If this time expires, the certificate becomes useless. The Ministry has made it clear that unless both the partners have a valid medical certificate, the marriage will not be registered or solemnised. Strict instructions have been given to marriage officials not to register any contract without a valid certificate.

To whom will this rule apply?

This rule applies to all Omanis who want to get married. Even if the other partner is non-Omani or the marriage is contracted outside Oman, it is mandatory to undergo a medical test. This test will have to be done only in a public or private health center recognized by the government. After the medical test, the digital copy of the certificate is sent directly to the notary public platform of the Supreme Judicial Council.

Strict action will be taken if rules are broken

The Health Ministry has stressed that medical tests are necessary to increase health awareness and avoid future problems. Those who do not follow this rule will have to face punishment under Article 5 of the Royal Decree. This can result in a jail term ranging from 10 days to 6 months. Additionally, a fine ranging from 100 Oman Riyal to 1,000 Oman Riyal can also be imposed.
