Controversy over Nitish Kumar removing woman’s niqab
New Delhi. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is under attack from all sides for his attempt to remove the niqab of a Muslim woman. At the same time, now along with Nitish’s party JDU, leaders of the ruling BJP have also come out in his support. Union Minister Giriraj Singh’s comment on this has created an uproar. Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah has strongly condemned this statement and raised questions on BJP. He said that if any Muslim leader had tried to remove the veil of a Hindu woman, the BJP would have made it the center of a big controversy.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh defended Nitish Kumar and said that he did not do anything wrong. Reacting to the incident in Patna, he said, “If a person is going for a job, he should show his face. Is this an Islamic country?” Giriraj Singh said that Nitish played the role of a guardian. However, on reports of the woman refusing to accept the job, he said, “It is her choice.”
Criticism of Omar Abdullah
Omar Abdullah had also criticized Nitish Kumar on Wednesday. He told reporters at a program that Nitish is now slowly showing his true colors. Abdullah termed this incident as wrong and said that it cannot be justified in any way. He said, “If the Chief Minister did not want to give the appointment letter to that woman, then he should not have insulted her by keeping her aside.”
