Jammu and Kashmir. CM Omar Abdullah Surendra Chaudhary Deputy CM: National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today. Apart from him, five other MLAs have also taken oath as cabinet ministers. Interestingly, this list of five ministers also includes two Hindu ministers from Jammu region. Surendra Chaudhary has been made the Deputy Chief Minister in the Omar government. Omar Abdullah has tried to improve his image among Hindus in the state by making Surendra Chaudhary the Deputy Chief Minister.

Effort to balance power in Kashmir Valley and Jammu region

At one time National Conference had influence in every part of Jammu and Kashmir. But gradually the party's influence in the state decreased and it remained limited only to the Kashmir Valley. The National Conference is constantly accused of neglecting the Jammu region while in power. But now Omar Abdullah has tried to maintain balance in Jammu and Kashmir. For this reason, he has given the post of Deputy Chief Minister to Surinder Singh Choudhary, elected from Jammu region.

A message for the Hindu community

By making Surinder Singh Chaudhary the Deputy Chief Minister (CM Omar Abdullah Surendra Chaudhary Deputy CM), the National Conference has tried to give a positive message to the Hindu voters. After the exodus of Hindus from Kashmir Valley, the National Conference's hold on Hindu votes has weakened. Before the strong rise of BJP in the 2014 elections, parties like Congress and National Conference Party were influential. The National Conference had influence only in the Muslim-majority constituencies of Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban in the Jammu region. But now the National Conference has kept two ministers from Jammu division in Omar's cabinet and made Surendra Chaudhary the Deputy Chief Minister.

Reward for defeating Ravinder Raina

Surinder Singh Chaudhary has been elected from Nowshera assembly constituency of Rajouri district. Surendra Chaudhary defeated Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina from Nowshera constituency. Surendra Singh Choudhary has got the reward of defeating the biggest leader of BJP in the state by getting the post of Deputy Chief Minister. Ravinder Raina had won from Nowshera in the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.

These leaders were included in the cabinet

Independent MLA from Chham assembly constituency Satish Sharma has also been made a minister in Omar Abdullah's cabinet. Chhamb assembly seat also falls in Jammu district (CM Omar Abdullah Surendra Chaudhary Deputy CM). There are 11 assembly seats in Jammu district and 10 of these have been won by BJP candidates. It is also being said that Omar Abdullah's strategy behind making the only non-BJP MLA from Jammu district a minister is to lay the political foundation. Other faces in Omar Abdullah's cabinet include Sakina Yettu, Javed Dar and Javed Rana.
