Omar Abdullah said before the oath – statehood will be restored

Before taking oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah said that Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory, which is unfortunate in itself, but I have always said that as a Union Territory, Our status is temporary. We have received a promise from the Government of India that statehood will be restored.

Omar Abdullah said that I was the last Chief Minister to complete a tenure of 6 years. Now I will become the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Served for 6 years, I am very happy with it. I hope the Union Territory status is temporary. We look forward to working together with the Government of India to solve the problems of the people and the best way to do this would be to start by restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. A lot has to be done, people have to be encouraged that they have power and their voice will be heard. It's been 5-6 years since no one was ready to listen to the people. It will be our duty to listen to them and act on it. It will be our endeavor to come up to the expectations of the people.
