On Mahashivratri, devotees gathered to worship in the Shiva temples including 12 Jyotirlingas, 5km long line outside Kashi Vishwanath temple.

New Delhi, 15 February. Mahashivratri festival is being celebrated across the country today. Devotees have been reaching the 12 Jyotirlingas and Shiva temples since midnight to offer darshan and worship. Special Panchamrit Abhishek and Bhasmarti puja was performed at Mahakaleshwar temple at 3 am in the morning. Devotees from every corner of the country reached here to participate in Baba’s Bhasmarti. More than 10 lakh devotees are likely to visit the temple during this period. The doors will remain open for 44 hours continuously from this morning for darshan.

Mahakal Temple: The doors here are open from 2:30 pm and darshan and worship will take place continuously for 44 hours. There will be no Shayan Aarti during this period. There will also be a Bhasma Aarti which happens once a year at 12 noon on 16th February.

Special makeup: Three quintals of flowers have been ordered to decorate Mahakal as a groom. An 11 feet Sehra will be made from 100 kg figure flowers, 1.25 lakh vine leaves and 200 kg indigenous flowers.

Omkareshwar Temple: The temple in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh has been opened for darshan from 3 pm, where worship will continue 24 hours continuously.

Kashi Vishwanath: Mangala Aarti was performed here at 2:15 pm and the temple opened for the general public at 3:30 pm. There is a kilometer long queue of devotees outside the temple.

Babadham (Devghar): Special worship and restoration of Panchshuls was done on Saturday in Deoghar, Jharkhand. Shiva-Parvati marriage will take place in Baba Baidyanath temple on Sunday and Shiva procession will be taken out in the evening. Devotees are having darshan here since 4:25 in the morning.
