On the 140th foundation day of Congress, Kharge attacked Modi government, said – Constitution and democracy are in danger.
Tezzbuzz Desk- On the occasion of the 140th Foundation Day of Congress, the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge made a scathing attack on the Modi government at the Centre. He alleged that the Constitution, democracy and people’s rights are in serious danger during the tenure of the present government. Kharge said that the Modi government is weakening the constitutional institutions and policies are being made in favor of the capitalists instead of the national interest.
Mallikarjun Kharge hoisted the national flag at the flag hoisting ceremony held at Indira Bhawan in Delhi and remembered the 140 years of struggle and contribution of the Congress. On this occasion, Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and many senior party leaders were present.
In his address, Kharge said that during Sonia Gandhi’s tenure as Congress President and Dr. Manmohan Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister, the UPA government strengthened the rights of the common people. He said that during the same period, historic steps like Right to Information (RTI), Right to Education (RTE), Food Security Act, MGNREGA, Forest Rights Act and Land Acquisition Act were taken.
Kharge said, “The Indian National Congress has always worked for the welfare, empowerment and inclusive development of the countrymen. Today there is a direct attack on the Constitution and democracy in the country.”
Recalling the historical contribution of the party, the Congress President said that it has been the good fortune of the Congress that great personalities of the country have been associated with it. Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, people from all classes joined the freedom struggle. He said that India is a country in the world where democracy is still alive and the thinking and struggle of Congress has been behind it.
Kharge said that for 62 years, crores of Congress workers struggled, went to jail and fought for the freedom of the country. Paying tribute to the founders of Congress and the freedom fighters, he said that the party will continue to work to build the India that they had dreamed of.
Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that in the last 11 years, the Modi government has weakened the institutions set up by the Congress. He said that RSS and BJP leaders never accepted the Constitution, Tricolor and ‘Vande Mataram’.
Kharge said, “Water, forests and land are in danger. People’s rights are being taken away. MNREGA has almost been destroyed. The government is hiding its failures with the help of fake data and making laws for the capitalists.”
It is noteworthy that the Indian National Congress was established on 28 December 1885 in Mumbai. At that time Dadabhai Naoroji, A.O.
