Ranchi: The Election Commission had directed the state government to remove Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta. Following the instructions of the Commission, 1989 batch IPS officer Ajay Kumar Singh, Director of Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited, has been made the new DGP of the state.

Before Anurag Gupta, Ajay Kumar Singh was the DGP of Jharkhand, but after Hemant Soren became the Chief Minister for the second time, Anurag Gupta was made DGP in place of Ajay Singh. The Home Jail and Disaster Management Department has issued a notification regarding the appointment of Ajay Singh as DGP. Earlier, Ajay Kumar Singh had become the DGP of the state for the first time in February 2023.
