One Direction star Liam Payne dies at 31 after falling from hotel balcony in Argentina

Former One Direction star Liam Payne passed away on Wednesday, October 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31. Buenos Aires police said Payne fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood of Argentina’s capital, resulting in “extremely serious injuries” before medics confirmed his death, in a statement to the Associated Press.

Television network MTV was among the first to pay their respects, saying: “We’re deeply saddened to learn of Liam Payne’s tragic passing today. During this difficult time, our hearts remain with his family, loved ones, and fans.”

Emergency services were called in order to deal with a man acting erratically and perhaps under the influence, Alberto Crescenti, the director of SAME, Buenos Aires Emergency Medical Services told ABC News.

Crescenti added emergency services arrived at the scene at 5:11 p.m. local time, seven minutes after they received the emergency services call. Crescenti also told the outlet there was no possibility of trying to save the man, whose identity was only discovered after he was confirmed dead.

As soon as the report of Liam Payne’s death was out, a video quickly went viral on the internet of a man, supposedly Payne, who was seen falling from a building. However, the video is fake and dates back to 2023.

Liam Payne became part of One Direction when the group was formed in 2010 after his appearance on The X Factor. The band also included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson. Since the group’s hiatus in 2015, Payne launched a solo career, debuting with the song “Strip That Down” in 2017, followed by the release of his album LP1 in 2019. Despite One Direction’s split, Payne expressed during an interview on Good Morning America that he still “misses being with the boys.”

May his soul rest in peace.
