One hand catch and prize worth crores, fan wins jackpot

It is often said in cricket that excellent fielding and catches at important moments can change the course of the match. History is witness to the fact that in many big matches, an excellent catch has decided the outcome. But what happened in the South Africa T20 League gave a completely new meaning to this saying, when a spectator sitting in the stands took such a catch that his luck changed.

Spectator made a spectacular catch with one hand

MI Cape Town and Durban Super Giants were face to face in the first match of the SA20 League. During the match, MI Cape Town batsman Ryan Rickelton was looking in great form. He hit a powerful shot on the fourth ball of the 13th over of the innings, which fell straight into the audience gallery. A fan present there made a brilliant catch with one hand. This was not just a moment of applause, but proved to be a jackpot for that fan.

Actually, a special rule called ‘Catch a Million’ is in force in the SA20 League. Under this, if a spectator takes a clean catch with one hand in the stands, he is given prize money. Under this rule, that fan got a prize of 20 lakh Rand, which is worth about Rs 1.07 crore in Indian currency. The catch taken in an instant made that spectator a millionaire.

Ryan Rickelton’s century in vain

If we talk about the match, even Ryan Rickelton’s brilliant century could not help his team win. He scored 113 runs in 65 balls, which included five fours and 11 sixes. Despite this, MI Cape Town, while chasing the target of 233 runs, could score only 217 runs for seven wickets and lost the match by 15 runs. A total of 449 runs were scored in this high-scoring match, in which 25 sixes and 40 fours were seen. Apart from Rickelton, Jason Smith contributed 41 runs for MI Cape Town.

Earlier, Durban Super Giants, batting first, scored a huge score of 232 runs at the loss of five wickets. The team got a great start by the opening pair of New Zealand’s Devon Conway and Kane Williamson. Together they added 96 runs in 8.3 overs. After this, Jos Buttler and Heinrich Klaasen scored fast runs, while Aiden Markram and Evan Jones further strengthened the team’s score in the last overs.
