One piece dress was bought for Rs 299, nurse got cheated of Rs 1 lakh

As much as the internet world has made shopping easier, the work of swindlers and criminals has also become easier. Online fraudsters find a new way every day and make people their victims. Now a similar case has come to light from Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai. A nurse had seen a dress online. The one piece dress was available for only Rs 299 so the nurse tried to buy it. First Rs 299 were lost and then Rs 1 lakh was lost in 4 days. When neither the money nor the dress was found, the woman became suspicious and the matter reached the police.

 

Now Deonar police has registered a case and the matter is being investigated. According to the complaint, money was taken from the woman several times as fee for different things. It was also promised that most of this money would be returned as refund. Due to this, the woman kept giving money again and again and gave more than one lakh rupees.

What did the police tell?

An officer of Deonar police station said that a nurse living in a hostel in Mumbai told the police that after seeing an advertisement of a one-piece dress for Rs 299 on Facebook, she tried to buy it. The officer said that initially they were asked to pay only for the dress. After this, the fraudsters started extorting money one after the other by making excuses like shipping charges, GPS charges, tracking fees, verification code and address verification. The nurse has told the police that she made a payment of Rs 1 lakh in five days between 16 and 20 April.

 

According to the woman, every time she was assured that most of the amount would be refunded and the order would be delivered soon. When neither the money nor the dress was returned, she realized she had been cheated. After this the victim contacted the cyber crime helpline and lodged a complaint. The officer said that Deonar police have registered the case and started investigation.

According to initial investigation, an advertisement was created on Facebook to trap people. Apart from this, the woman was cheated by using a WhatsApp number and a fake delivery agent.
