Through this hoarding, an appeal has been made to save the Aravalli Hills, taking a dig at the Central Government’s ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign. What was written in the poster? In the poster put up by NSUI student leader and Gorakhpur resident Aditya Shukla, pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani are prominently shown. The language of the poster is quite aggressive, in which the government’s policies have been directly put in the dock. It is written in big letters on the hoarding that one tree is in the name of mother, the entire forest is in the name of Adani, took the vote by showing one tree, gave the entire forest to Adani, save Aravali, otherwise even the breath will be sold.

Aravali conservation issue

Student leader Aditya Shukla, who put up the poster, said that on one hand the government is running a passionate campaign in the name of the environment in the name of a tree, but on the other hand, preparations are going on to hand over important mountain ranges like Aravalli to private hands for mining and industrial gains. He alleged that if the Aravalli forests were destroyed, it would become difficult for future generations to get pure air.

The Aravalli mountain range acts as a protective shield for Delhi NCR and a large part of North India. Activists believe that any major intervention in this will have a direct impact on the environment and groundwater level. The hoarding put up outside the Congress office located in Mall Avenue, a busy area of Lucknow, is attracting the attention of the passersby. Political experts believe that Congress is trying to take the issue of ‘Crony Capitalism’ among the public by directly linking it to the environment.

Youth concerned about exploitation of environment will continue to raise voice against it

NSUI’s protest comes at a time when campaigns regarding the Aravalli Mountains are going on in different parts of the country. Student leaders said that saving natural forests is more important than symbolic tree plantation. Aditya Shukla, who got the poster installed, is a resident of Gorakhpur and is active in student politics. He has tried to convey the message through this poster that a section of the youth is concerned about the exploitation of the environment and will continue to raise their voice against it.
