One year of Rekha Gupta government completed in Delhi, which promises were fulfilled and which remained unfulfilled?

Bharatiya Janata Party returned to power in Delhi after almost 27 years. This government formed under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has now completed one year. During the assembly elections, BJP had made many big promises to the public while challenging the Aam Aadmi Party and its leader Arvind Kejriwal.

BJP implemented new policies

In its detailed manifesto, the party had prominently included important issues like continuing free electricity and water facilities, providing financial assistance to women, improving health services and cleaning the Yamuna river. The people of Delhi expressed confidence in BJP and gave it a clear majority, after which Rekha Gupta started taking steps towards implementing the election promises as soon as she assumed the post of Chief Minister. The government started approving schemes and implementing new policies from its first cabinet meeting itself.

After completion of one year, the question is now being raised that to what extent has the government been able to fulfill its promises and which schemes are still in the process of being implemented. First of all, if we talk about free electricity and water, this facility was started during the previous government, but BJP also decided to continue it. This has been providing relief to millions of people and the government has kept this promise.

In the field of health services, the government planned to establish Ayushman Arogya Mandir in place of Mohalla Clinic. The government aims to build 1100 Arogya Mandir, out of which about 370 centers have been started in a year. Doctor consultation, treatment and necessary testing facilities are being provided to the patients at these centres.

Ayushman Bharat Scheme

In another important step in the health sector, the government implemented the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi. Under this scheme, earlier the eligible people used to get free treatment facility up to Rs 5 lakh, but the Delhi government has added additional assistance to it and made the total limit Rs 10 lakh. Till now, Ayushman cards have been issued to about 6.7 lakh people. Apart from this, Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana has also been implemented for the elderly above 70 years of age, due to which senior citizens are getting free treatment and testing facilities.

Atal Canteen Scheme

The government started the Atal Canteen Yojana with the aim of providing food at affordable rates to the poor and needy people. Under this scheme, nutritious food is being provided in slums and poor areas for five rupees. So far, about 71 Atal canteens have been opened and the government has set a budget of more than Rs 100 crore for this scheme. At the same time, Chief Minister Matritva Suraksha Yojana has been started for pregnant women. Under this, financial assistance and nutrition kits are being provided to women. Thousands of women have benefited from this scheme and crores of rupees have been sent directly to their accounts.

However, there are some promises which have not yet been fully implemented. During the elections, BJP had promised to provide two free gas cylinders to women in a year and to provide LPG at cheaper rates. The government has approved this scheme, but its benefits are yet to reach the people. It is being told that this scheme can be implemented from the time of upcoming festivals.

Similarly, the scheme to give Rs 2500 every month to women has also not been started yet. The government has made a budget provision for this scheme and has formed a committee to decide the eligibility, but the beneficiaries have not yet received the benefits. The promise of increasing the pension of the elderly is still unfulfilled. The government had announced to increase the pension amount, but the process of implementing it is going on.

Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana

The scheme being run for girls has also been given a new shape and named ‘Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’, under which the amount of financial assistance has been increased. However, the benefits of this scheme have not yet reached the people completely.

Cleaning of Yamuna river was also included in the major promises of the government. For this, a comprehensive plan has been prepared, under which efforts are being made to remove garbage from the river, improve sewage management and reduce pollution. Although work has started in this direction, the river has not been completely cleaned yet.

air pollution

Air pollution also remains one of the biggest challenges of Delhi. The government has started new bus services and other measures to deal with this problem, but complete control of pollution has not been possible yet. The government says that this problem has been going on for a long time and continuous efforts are being made to solve it.

Overall, the Rekha Gupta government has implemented some important schemes and taken initiatives in many areas during its one-year tenure. However, many big promises are still unfulfilled and people are waiting for their fulfillment. In the coming times, it will be important to see at what speed the government fulfills its remaining promises and to what extent it lives up to the expectations of the public.
