OnePlus 13 Introduces Anti-Theft Feature with Offline Tracking
The recently launched OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R have brought some notable upgrades, and among them, an exciting anti-theft feature stands out—offline device tracking. This new functionality allows users to track their OnePlus 13 even when it is powered off, making it one of the few devices with such a capability.
Typically, when a smartphone is turned off, it becomes nearly impossible to track its location. This makes devices vulnerable to theft, as many thieves turn off the phone to prevent being traced. However, thanks to the latest technology integrated into the OnePlus 13, users can now locate their lost or stolen phone even if it is switched off or runs out of battery.
While OnePlus did not explicitly showcase this feature during the launch event, it was discovered by Android Authority after exploring the device’s settings. The “Find My Device” feature now supports a “Powered Off Finding” functionality, which enables the phone to be located even when turned off.
This feature is a part of the broader update to Google’s Find My Device service, which was improved last year with several new functionalities. However, offline tracking has been previously exclusive to Google’s Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series. With the introduction of this feature on the OnePlus 13, it becomes the only non-Pixel device with offline tracking capabilities.
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite and the FastConnect 7900 platform, the OnePlus 13 uses its Bluetooth module to communicate with other devices on the Find My network. This allows the phone to broadcast its location to nearby devices, even when powered down. The feature is active for several hours after the phone is turned off, giving users a better chance of recovering their lost or stolen devices.
In addition, the OnePlus 13R and previous models do not support this feature, as they lack the required hardware for offline tracking.
Similar to Apple’s Find My network, the feature is dependent on both the hardware and the software integration from the manufacturer. OnePlus has successfully implemented this feature, making the OnePlus 13 more secure than ever before.
