It took Europe 20 years, we did it in 18 months

Addressing the ‘US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit’ (USISPF), Ambassador Sergio Gore reiterated his commitment to finalize the agreement as soon as possible. He said that this deal will prove to be a game-changer for the economies of both the countries.

Answering the questions arising on the time taken for the agreement, the US Ambassador said,

“People often ask why it is taking so much time? We have been working on it continuously for the last one and a half year (18 months). If you compare, it took a long time of 20 years to complete the trade deal with Europe. In that respect, we are very strong and in a good position and I am committed to completing it very soon.”

Trump and Modi’s ‘personal bond’ is bringing both countries closer

Sergio Gore attributed the strength of bilateral relations to the excellent personal chemistry between US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the mutual relations between the two leaders are giving new momentum to the relations. Referring to President Trump’s visit to India, the Ambassador said that the President still considers his last visit to India as one of his most memorable and close to his heart. He expressed hope that he would soon witness the US President’s visit to India again.

Steps towards the grand target of 500 billion dollars

Talking about trade statistics, Ambassador Gore said that in the last two decades, bilateral trade between India and America has increased from $ 20 billion to a record level of $ 220 billion. This is a huge achievement in itself. He also mentioned the ambitious target set by President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, under which a blueprint has been prepared to increase the bilateral trade between the two countries to 500 billion dollars (ن500 Billion) in the next few years.
