The change comes in response to an increase in security checks at airports. Passengers will also be allowed a single bag, provided its width and length comply with the new standards. There are some exemptions for tickets booked before May 2, 2024.

As per new rules, a passenger can carry a hand bag with a maximum weight of 7 kg. This rule will apply on passengers of economy and premium economy class. Passengers of business and first class can carry a bag with a maximum weight of 10 kg. The size of the bag has also been decided which a passenger can carry along with. The height of the bag should not be more than 55 cm, length 40 cm, and width 20 cm. In total, the size of the bag should not be more than 115 cm. If a passenger’s bag is more than the prescribed size, he will have to pay an additional fee.
Passengers who booked tickets before May 2, 2024, will be eligible for certain exemptions. Economy class passengers can carry a handbag with a maximum weight of 8 kg. Premium economy class passengers are allowed to carry one bag weighing up to 10 kg, while business and first-class passengers can carry a bag with a maximum weight of 12 kg. These exemptions apply only to passengers who booked their tickets before May 2, 2024.
Indigo airlines has also issued new guidelines regarding new baggage rules. The airline has allowed two bags-one hand bag and a personal bag. A passenger can carry a bag with a maximum weight of 7 kg and the size of the bag should not be more than 115 cm. A passenger can also carry a personal bag weighing up to 3 kg like a ladies hand bag and a laptop bag.
