Vietnam has two public holiday periods in April, with Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day offering a three-day break from April 25 to 27 and the Reunification Day-Labor Day period stretching four days from April 30 to May 3.

Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day, which marks the death anniversary of Vietnam’s legendary founding rulers, falls on Sunday, April 26. Because it coincides with a weekend, workers receive a compensatory day off on Monday, April 27, extending the break to three days.

Workers return on Tuesday, April 28, and Wednesday, April 29, before the next holiday begins. Reunification Day on April 30 and International Labor Day on May 1 fall on a Thursday and Friday, combining with the following weekend for a four-day break through Sunday, May 3.

Agencies observing the standard schedule are required to assign standby personnel for urgent matters during both periods. Workplaces without fixed weekends should arrange time off based on their specific operational plans.

Vietnam currently has 11 official public holidays per year. That number is expected to rise to 12 after the government formalizes a Politburo directive issued Jan. 7 that designated Nov. 24 as Vietnam Culture Day and called for it to become a paid day off.
