OpenAI acquires the famous 'chat.com' domain to provide ChatGPAT services

TECH: OpenAI has announced that its ChatGPT has a second destination. Artificial Intelligence Chatbot is now available through 'chat.com' – a coveted domain that many companies and individuals have acquired by outdoing each other to strengthen their online presence with utmost convenience for internet users. In other words, visiting 'chat.com' now opens ChatGPT in addition to the original 'chatgpt.com' domain.

First registered in 1996, 'chat.com' was previously owned by companies looking to strengthen their position on the web. CEO Sam Altman announced an important development for the Microsoft-backed AI company in a post on X. He wrote “chat.com” without explaining anything.

Although OpenAI has not disclosed the price paid to acquire the domain, 'chat.com' was recently purchased by HubSpot co-founder Dharmesh Shah for $15.5 million in 2023. It is one of the most expensive domains available on the internet. The OpenAI acquisition may have brought in more money than that, but the company isn't retiring the original domain. Nor does it plan to rebrand its AI bot, which has become a verb for using artificial intelligence to find anything – just like Google is used to find anything on the internet.

'Chat.com' is also a more memorable domain, which helps OpenAI target more customers more effectively, especially with the onslaught of rivals like Google's Gemini, Bing Chat and Perplexity AI.

This development comes just days after OpenAI announced that ChatGPT can now act as a search engine, allowing users to find more relevant and recent information from around the internet than the bot can pull from its database. Is. “ChatGPT can now search the web better than ever before, so you get fast, timely answers with links to relevant web sources,” the company said. Adding search engine functionality to ChatGPT puts it in a more competitive position against Google, which owns the world's most popular search engine and is using the capabilities to power its Gemini AI service.
