OpenAI Caitlin Kalinowski: OpenAI’s robotics head Caitlin Kalinowski resigns, upset over this deal with the US government
OpenAI Caitlin Kalinowski :Caitlin Kalinowski, head of robotics and consumer hardware at ChatGPT’s parent company OpenAI, has resigned. He announced this on Saturday. Along with this, he said that he is concerned about the agreement made by the company with the Defense Department of the US Government. In an ex-post he wrote that the company did not take enough time before agreeing to deploy its artificial intelligence (AI) models on the Pentagon’s secret cloud network.

Kalinowski previously led the team building augmented reality glasses at Meta and joined OpenAI in November 2024. Prior to this, he was heading Augmented Reality Hardware development at Meta Platforms.
Caitlin Kalinowski says that the role of AI in national security is very important, but keeping an eye on American citizens without judicial surveillance and giving autonomy without human approval are limits on which there should have been more discussion. Regarding this agreement, the company said, “We believe that our agreement with the Pentagon paves a practical path for responsible national security uses of AI, as well as our clear limitations that prevent the use of its technology in domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons.”
