Operation Delta Hunt: Gujarat Police detains hundreds as crackdown on illegal infiltration networks intensifies
Gujarat Police has intensified its statewide action against illegal immigration under Operation Delta Huntdetaining 362 illegal Bangladeshi nationals and launching extensive verification and interrogation procedures involving hundreds of other suspected individuals, according to the Director General of Police (DGP), Gujarat.
The operation, described as one of the state’s largest coordinated security drives in recent years, is aimed at identifying illegal immigrants, dismantling infiltration networks and strengthening national security through intelligence-led enforcement measures.
Hundreds detained during statewide operation
According to the DGP, police teams have so far detained 362 illegal Bangladeshi nationals during the ongoing operation.
In addition, authorities are currently carrying out verification and interrogation of more than 782 suspected individuals whose identities and immigration status are being examined as part of the investigation.
Officials said the exercise is being conducted across multiple districts and involves coordination between intelligence units, local police stations and specialized investigation teams.
Database-driven investigation launched
A key component of Operation Delta Hunt involves the use of intelligence databases and digital analysis.
Police officials revealed that investigators are working with a database containing details of more than 6,200 suspected illegal immigrants. The information is being cross-verified with field intelligence, documentation records and communication data.
Authorities said they have also analyzed mobile phone numbers linked to Bangladesh-based contactsenabling investigators to identify possible networks, communication channels and movement patterns associated with suspected illegal infiltration activities.
The intelligence gathered through these methods has helped police expand the scope of the operation and identify additional persons for verification.
Security checks intensified across transit hubs
As part of the crackdown, police have significantly strengthened surveillance and checking operations at transportation and transit points across the state.
According to officials, special teams have been deployed at bus stations, railway stations and major entry-exit routes to prevent suspects from evading law enforcement action.
During these intensified checks, police apprehended 18 individuals who were allegedly attempting to flee after security measures were tightened.
Authorities said these arrests were made during targeted operations based on intelligence inputs received during the course of the investigation.
Focus on dismantling infiltration networks
Officials emphasized that the operation is not limited to identifying illegal immigrants but is also focused on uncovering the larger networks that facilitate illegal entry, movement and settlement.
Investigators are examining communication records, financial links, travel patterns and local support structures that may have assisted individuals in entering or remaining in the country unlawfully.
Police sources indicated that the investigation is expected to continue in the coming days, with additional verification exercises and intelligence-based operations already underway.
National security remains key priority
The Gujarat Police has described Operation Delta Hunt as a significant initiative aimed at strengthening internal security and ensuring compliance with immigration laws.
Officials said the operation reflects a broader effort to address concerns related to illegal infiltration and to identify individuals residing in the state without valid documentation.
