New Delhi. American IT company Oracle has laid off about 12,000 employees in India and the second round of layoffs is expected to begin within a month. The affected employees gave this information.

Oracle has laid off about 30,000 employees worldwide. Oracle, which employs about 30,000 employees in India, has not yet made any official comment on the matter. According to the affected employees, the company informed them via email that several positions would be eliminated due to organizational changes.

Oracle has offered 15 days’ salary as a bonus to employees who have completed more than one year of service in India. In addition, they will also receive one month salary (unpaid), leave encashment, gratuity as per entitlement and one month notice period till the date of termination of service. Apart from this, the company has also informed to give two months additional salary to the employees who left the company voluntarily.

Former Oracle employee Merugu Sridhar said that most of the Indian employees working in America have been affected by this layoff because the local labor laws there are strict in the case of layoff of American citizens. Sridhar was fired from the company in September last year for protesting against 16-hour working days.
