Osamu Suzuki, known for his sharp business acumen and cost-conscious strategies, led the company for more than four decades. In the 1970s, Suzuki faced the challenging task of keeping the company afloat amid stringent new emissions regulations.
Osamu Suzuki was born on January 30, 1930 in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. He joined Suzuki Motor Company in 1958 after marrying the daughter of the Suzuki family. He adopted his wife's family name 'Suzuki'. His wife was the daughter of then-chairman Shunzo Suzuki. In 1978 he became the President of the company. He built what started as Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Company in 1920 into one of Japan's leading automakers.
