Oscars 2026: The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards i.e. Oscar 2026 are being announced today on Thursday, 22 January 2026. Film lovers all over the world and especially in India are eagerly waiting for this announcement. These nominations signal the beginning of the awards season, where many films and actors make their mark.
When and where to see nominations
Indian viewers can watch live from around 7:00 pm Indian time this evening. According to some sources it will start from 6:30 PM IST or 7:00 PM IST, while some mention till 9:45 PM IST, but the main announcement will happen in the evening. This live telecast will be available on the Academy’s official websites oscar.com and oscars.org.
Apart from this, it will also be streamed on social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram. In the US, it will be shown on ABC’s Good Morning America, Disney+, Hulu and ABC News Live. The announcement will be made from the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre.

This time the hosts who announced the nominations are actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman. Daniel Brooks is known for films like ‘The Color Purple’, while Lewis Pullman will be seen in upcoming films. Together they will read the names of nominees in 24 categories.
All eyes on Indian film ‘Homebound’
This time India’s hopes are pinned on the film ‘Homebound’. This film directed by Nitesh Ghaywan has reached the shortlist in the Best International Feature Film category. The film, starring Ishaan Khattar, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor, is India’s official entry.
If nominated, it will be the first time in 25 years after ‘Lagaan’ that an Indian film will be nominated in this category. The film has also received the support of big names like Martin Scorsese. Other Indian films like Kantara: Chapter 1, Tanvi The Great, Mahavatar Narasimha and Tourist Family are also in the news, but the main focus is on ‘Homebound’.
Best Film Category Contenders
In the race for the best film, films like ‘One Battle After Another’, ‘Sinners’, ‘Hamnet’, ‘Frankenstein’ and ‘Marty Supreme’ are considered strong contenders. This year there will be a total of 24 categories and for the first time a new Oscar for Best Casting will be given, which will honor the contribution of casting directors. The awards ceremony will take place on March 15 or 16, 2026, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
