Prince William and Kate just introduced the world to their latest family member. Meet Otto, an English cocker spaniel who turned one year old on May 1st. The couple shared the news on social media with a simple, heartwarming caption: “Welcome to the family, Otto! 1 today.”The photo shows a fluffy, adorable pup looking straight at the camera with wind-swept ears, the kind of picture that makes you want to reach through your screen and pet him. And honestly, the internet has already fallen for him. This is Otto’s official debut to the world, his formal introduction as a full-fledged member of the royal household.The timing is sweet. William and Kate just celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on April 29th, just two days before introducing Otto. The couple met back at St. Andrews University in Scotland, got engaged in 2010, and married at Westminster Abbey the following year. Fifteen years later, they’re still very much a working family, three kids, school runs, pets that need feeding, all the normal stuff except, you know, with a bit more media attention.Otto fills a space left by Lupo, William and Kate’s beloved spaniel who passed away in November 2020 after nine years with the family. The royal family has always had dogs, of course. It’s kind of their thing. The late Queen Elizabeth II famously bred corgis, starting with one called Susan when the Queen turned 18 back in 1944. From there, she developed an entire lineage of corgis, plus some “dorgis,” which are apparently a cross between dachshunds and corgis. So there’s actual royal pedigree when it comes to dog ownership in this family.
