Outcry in Meta: Mark Zuckerberg is going to use scissors again, date fixed for layoff of 8000 employees

News India Live, Digital Desk: Once again heart-wrenching news is coming out from the leading social media company Meta. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has decided to give a big blow to its employees and make huge layoffs. According to the latest reports, the company is going to show the way out to around 8,000 employees in its first phase of layoffs this year. This company led by Mark Zuckerberg is once again preparing for a ‘surgical strike’ to increase its efficiency and reduce costs. This time Meta has decided to start its retrenchment process in a very planned manner. According to the information, the first phase of layoffs will begin on May 20, 2026. In this phase, approximately 10 percent of the total workforce of the company will be affected. This decision of the company has created silence not only in America but also in Meta offices spread across the world. There is an atmosphere of fear among the employees as to who will be next. AI becomes the villain! Trust on machines instead of humans. Surprisingly, Meta is not facing financial crisis at this time, rather the entire focus of the company has shifted to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Mark Zuckerberg believes that the future belongs to AI and that is why the company is laying off those departments which can now be replaced by new technology. The company has set a target of investing billions of dollars on AI infrastructure this year, due to which traditional jobs are under threat. This is just the beginning, there will be more victims by the end of the year. If you are thinking that there will be relief after the layoff of 8,000, then it is not so at all. Quoting sources, it is reported that this is just a ‘trailer’. Meta also plans to bring another big round of layoffs in the second half of 2026. If reports are to be believed, overall workforce can be reduced by 20%. Earlier in 2022-23 also, Meta had fired about 21,000 people in the name of ‘Year of Efficiency’. Which departments will be affected the most? This retrenchment is likely to have the biggest impact on departments like Recruitment, Sales, Global Operations and Reality Labs. The company is also reducing its management layers so that decisions can be taken faster. At present, the company has not issued any official statement on this layoff, but inside sources have confirmed that May 20 is going to be a heavy day for thousands of families.
