Overcoming Jasprit Bumrah eased the challenge of India’s bowling, says Sahibzada Farhan
Pakistan T20I opener Sahibzada Farhan recently reflected on his experience facing Jasprit Bumrah during the Asia Cup 2025. Known as one of India’s most challenging T20 bowlers, Bumrah poses a difficult task for any batter.
Farhan successfully countered the threat, striking Bumrah for three sixes, a feat no other batter has achieved in T20 internationals. He has scored 51 run off 34 balls, including six boundaries and three sixes, at a strike rate of 150.
In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Farhan said that facing Bumrah gave him the confidence to take on India’s other bowlers.
“Talking about Bumrah, he wasn’t the only quality bowler in the Indian team as players like Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are top-class as well. But I chose to face Bumrah first. Hitting a top bowler for a six gives you confidence as a batsman,” Farhan said.
During the Asia Cup final, Farhan contributed 57 runs off 38 balls, though it was Tilak Varma’s performance that secured India’s victory.
He added that while Bumrah is intimidating at the start, overcoming him makes the rest of the attack seem less daunting.
“At the start, he made things very challenging for me. He bowled slower balls, yorkers, bouncers, and swings the ball both ways. Naturally, he’s difficult to face. You have to figure him out, and once you get past that, the other bowlers feel easier,” Farhan added.
Farhan was also the top run-scorer in the T20 World Cup 2026, amassing 383 runs in six matches. He did not face Bumrah in the tournament, and was dismissed by Hardik Pandya in the first over of the India-Pakistan clash. Bumrah, meanwhile, finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker, taking 14 wickets from eight matches.
