As the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approach, the political atmosphere in the state is heating up. AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has shared significant insights regarding his party’s strategy and potential alliances, while in an exclusive interview with India TV, Owaisi emphasized that his party workers are putting in immense effort on the ground, working day and night to strengthen the party’s presence in the state. He addressed several critical issues, including potential tie-ups with the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, as well as national topics like the Uniform Civil Code and One Nation One Election.
Alliance Prospects with Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati
When questioned about a possible alliance with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, Owaisi was direct. He stated that he runs a political party, not an NGO. He reminded everyone that he had proposed an alliance in Bihar and is reiterating the same for Uttar Pradesh. His primary goal is to defeat the BJP, and for that, he’s open to joining forces. However, he clarified that the number of seats for such an alliance would be decided through formal discussions and not through media interactions, while regarding Mayawati and the BSP, Owaisi mentioned that there are currently no ongoing talks, but he promised to inform the public if any developments occur in the future.
Response to CM Yogi and the Jinnah Controversy
Owaisi also responded to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s comments regarding Jinnah. He questioned what his party or the Muslim community has to do with Jinnah, noting that they had rejected Jinnah’s message back in 1947. He criticized the current political climate, alleging that a policy of Hindutva is being implemented where Madrassas and Mazars are being targeted, while he linked these actions to the introduction of the Waqf Amendment Bill, which his party strongly opposed. According to Owaisi, a specific community is being openly targeted, and he believes this will continue until Muslims increase their own political strength.
Education and the Jauhar University Issue
The AIMIM chief expressed strong views on Jauhar University, accusing the BJP and RSS of not wanting Muslims to receive a modern education, while he claimed that these organizations don’t wish to see Muslims becoming engineers or doctors. This sentiment was echoed in his comments on the UCC in Madhya Pradesh. Owaisi challenged the narrative surrounding Muslim marriages, asking for data and surveys to prove claims about multiple marriages. He insisted that the government should provide factual data instead of spreading what he termed as lies.
Delimitation and One Nation One Election
On the topic of delimitation, Owaisi expressed deep skepticism towards the BJP. He stated that the party is capable of anything and can’t be trusted, regardless of the data in their favor. He cited the example of West Bengal, where even after 15 years of Mamata Banerjee’s rule, her MPs were lost. He also mentioned Yusuf Pathan, stating that while he isn’t a child, he lacks the necessary courage. Regarding the One Nation One Election proposal, Owaisi remarked that the BJP often introduces policies under the guise of national interest. He argued that the real question isn’t what the BJP is doing, but how the opposition plans to stop them. Finally, he noted that a significant meeting of Muslim leaders is scheduled for July 24 in Delhi, where he and other prominent figures will participate.
