Paatal Lok 2 review: Entertaining procedural film starring Jaideep Ahlawat

Mumbai: “I am a resident of Paatal Lok”, says Hathiram Choudhary (Jaideep Ahlawat), who is on the hunt for a political and financial conspiracy brewing in the heart of Nagaland. In the thrilling world of Paatal Lok, Hathiram's narrative rings true for Jaideep as he takes forward the new tale of crime and corruption without any hindrance. The show's creator Sudeep Sharma has surely delivered a season 2 that does justice to the first season of the show four years ago. While anyone who understands the beats of this universe by now is often left guessing as to what's going to happen next, the twists and turns hit home what makes Paatal Lok 2 a worthy follow-up.

While Season 1 had Hathiram in his own backyard, the darkness of Delhi and the marginalized people rotting, emerging and dying around him, the new episodes take him to the North-East, a world full of militancy, power politics and corruption. Is the stronghold of. He again meets Imran Ansari (Ishwak Singh), who is now his senior. Now the situation has changed, but has it happened? Ansari and Hathiram's friend-cop scenes are some of the best parts of Paatal Lok Season 2.

Ansari's personal revelation to Hathiram is an emotional one, and Hathiram's reaction to it will definitely make the audience want to watch more. Paatal Lok basically weaves the stories of marginalized people, who are not prosperous but surviving. Here, Hathiram becomes one. Thrown into a new area, he struggles to find his footing. His investigation is hindered by the system, but he comes into his own as the show progresses.

The makers of the show have broken the anthology formula. While the story progresses on similar lines and one can see where the investigation is going, the lovable characters make it worth a watch. The high points of the first season, like Hathiram's anger and his clever dialogue, are missing. Still, Paatal Lok 2 holds its own. The procedural parts keep it moving at a slow pace and those who are expecting a thrilling and fast-paced film from beginning to end should be patient as it remains interesting throughout its 8-episode run.
