Padma Award 2026: President Draupadi Murmu will honor 131 personalities on May 25, Home Ministry informed
The much-awaited ceremony of Padma Awards, one of the highest civilian decorations of the Republic, is going to be held on May 25 this year. This will be the day when Her Excellency Draupadi Murmu, the President of the country, will honor those extraordinary personalities who have brought glory to India in various fields with their distinguished contributions. This investiture ceremony, in which a total of 131 personalities will be honored with the prestigious Padma awards, will be held in the grand courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed the auspicious event through its social media platforms on Sunday. The ministry said that President Murmu, in the first civilian investiture ceremony, will personally confer honors like Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. This moment will truly be a magical experience for all who will receive this honor from the President himself, symbolizing the culmination of their life’s hard work and dedication.
A total of 131 celebrities will be honored
This year, the Government of India has announced a total of 131 Padma Awards, which recognize those talented people from every corner of the country who have set an exemplary example for the society and the nation through their work. These awards include five Padma Vibhushan, thirteen Padma Bhushan and one hundred and thirteen Padma Shri. This classification reflects the depth and breadth of contributions of those individuals whose tireless efforts and unwavering dedication have created new dimensions in their respective fields.
19 women are also included in these honours, which underlines the growing influence of women power and their unequaled contribution in various fields. It is an important message that the role of women in nation building is now being appreciated more prominently. Additionally, 16 individuals will be awarded the honor posthumously, indicating that their contributions were so profound and lasting that the nation continues to remember them with gratitude even after they are gone. It is a tribute to those great souls who dedicated their lives in the service of the country and society.
Padma Award, one of the country’s highest civilian honors
Padma Awards are one of the country’s highest civilian honours, established in the year 1954. Since its inception, these honors have been given to those citizens of India who have played an important role in the upliftment of the country and society by making extraordinary contributions in their respective fields. It is a glorious tradition which writes a new chapter every year with the announcement of these awards on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day.
These awards are given for special contribution in various fields like unique practice of art, light of literature and education, victory story in sports field, service in the field of medicine, selfless dedication to social work, innovative research in science and engineering, commitment to public life and innovation in business and industry. Every year, this selection process brings forward individuals whose work becomes a source of inspiration and enriches the collective consciousness of the nation. The ceremony to be held on 25th May is not just an award distribution but also a grand occasion to express gratitude to the great souls of the nation who have led their lives on the path of excellence.
