Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke award winning Bollywood's famous director Shyam Benegal passed away, breathed his last at the age of 90.

Mumbai. Famous Bollywood director Shyam Benegal has passed away. He was 90 years old and was ill for a long time, according to family members, Benegal breathed his last at 6.30 pm on Monday at Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai.

His daughter Pia Benegal has confirmed the news of his death in the media. Shyam Benegal was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 1991. According to the information, Shyam Benegal was the nephew of famous Bollywood actor and director Guru Dutt. Shyam Benegal was born on 14 December 1934 in Secunderabad, he celebrated his birthday 9 days earlier.

Dadasaheb Phalke was given the highest award of Indian cinema in 2007.
