Super-8 match between Pakistan and New Zealand canceled, both teams got 1-1 point

PAK vs NZ: The first match of Super-8 of T20 World Cup 2026 has been washed out due to rain. The Super-8 match to be played between Pakistan and New Zealand has been canceled due to rain. Both the teams have been given one point each. Due to continuous rain in Colombo, it was decided to cancel the match. Although the toss took place, the match could not start.

Pakistan and New Zealand got 1 point each

The first match of Super-8 of T20 World Cup 2026 was to be played between Pakistan and New Zealand at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The toss had already taken place for this match. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first, but due to continuous rain the match could not be restarted. After a long wait, the match was canceled without even a single ball being bowled. Both Pakistan and New Zealand teams have got 1-1 point.

Let us tell you that earlier in the group stage also, the match played between Pakistan and Ireland was canceled due to rain, due to which Pakistan got one point and qualified for Super-8. Rain can also become a villain in the upcoming Super-8 matches to be played in Colombo.

Both remaining matches will be important for Pakistan and New Zealand

Due to the cancellation of the Super-8 match, both Pakistan and New Zealand teams might be feeling that there has been a loss of 1-1 point, because whichever team had won this match, it would have got 2 points, but now the equation of the teams will change due to getting 1-1 point. In Super-8, all the teams have to play 3-3 matches. That means Pakistan and New Zealand still have 2-2 matches left. These remaining matches will be important for both the teams. To reach the semi-finals, both the teams would like to perform well in the remaining two matches. Now it remains to be seen whether both these teams are successful in making it to the semi-finals or not.
