PAK vs SL: Pakistan out of T20 World Cup, New Zealand becomes the third team to reach the semi-finals
New Delhi. New Zealand cricket team has qualified for the semi-finals of T20 World Cup. In their last Super-8 match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan had to restrict the Sri Lankan team to 147 runs to qualify, but its bowlers could not do so. As hosts Sri Lanka crossed the 147-run mark, New Zealand became the third team to reach the semi-finals and Pakistan’s journey ended.
Sri Lanka easily crossed the mark of 147 runs at the loss of 5 wickets on the basis of Rattananayake’s half-century in the 16th over. With this victory of Sri Lanka, not only has Pakistan team been out of the T20 World Cup, but now both the semi-final matches will also be played in India. If Pakistan team had qualified, the first semi-final would have been played in Colombo.
Earlier, after losing the toss, Pakistan batted first and scored a huge score of 212 runs at the loss of 8 wickets on the basis of a record partnership of 176 runs between Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman. Sahibzada Farhan scored 100 runs in 60 balls while Fakhar Zaman scored 84 runs in 42 balls.
New Zealand became the third semi-finalist team
Talking about the points table, New Zealand had won only one match in 3 matches. Their match against Pakistan was washed out due to rain. It had 3 points in 3 matches and now both the semi-finalist teams of Group 2 have got it. England became the semi-finalist team of Group 2, which won all its three matches and finished on top.
New Zealand will play the first semi-final
The New Zealand team has finished at number two in its group. This means that in the first semi-final to be held on March 4, their team will face the topper of Group One i.e. South Africa. This match will be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. South Africa has to play its last match against Zimbabwe on Sunday, where it will have a chance to win the match and finish on top with 6 points.
The second semi-final will be held on March 5.
On March 5, the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup will be played between the topper of Group 2 and the second-ranked team of Group 1. This match will be played at Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. The topper team of Group Two is England, while the second team of Group One will be revealed after the match between India and West Indies on Sunday.
