Both countries accused each other

Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid issued a statement on social media saying that Pakistani security forces first launched the attack in Spin Boldak district, in response to which Afghan forces had to take action.

Pakistan completely rejected the allegations

Pakistani Prime Minister’s spokesman Mosharraf Zaidi said that Afghan security forces opened fire on the Pakistani border without any provocation. He clarified that Pakistan is fully alert for its territorial sovereignty and security of its citizens and is ready to deal with any situation.

Tension increased after failure of peace talks

This conflict has taken place at a time when relations between the two countries are already going through a very delicate phase. Recently, peace talks were held between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Saudi Arabia, but it ended without any concrete result. Both the countries had definitely talked about maintaining the ceasefire during that time, but the latest violence has raised questions on these claims.

Earlier in the month of October also, dozens of people were killed in a dangerous conflict between the two countries. That violence was considered the worst after the Taliban came to power in 2021.
