It is being claimed on social media platforms that Afghan fighters targeted and shot down Pakistan’s American-made F-16 fighter jet. However, neither any official statement has come from Pakistan in this regard nor has the Afghan side given any formal confirmation.

How much does F-16 cost?

The price of F-16 fighter jet depends on its variant, technical upgrades and weapon system. The new F-16 (modernized version like Block 70/72) comes for around 40 to 70 million US dollars i.e. around Rs 300 to 500 crore or more. Older models are somewhat cheaper.

1. It is capable of simultaneous air-to-air (dogfight) and ground attacks.

2. Due to its light weight and aerodynamic design, it is capable of taking sharp turns, which gives it an edge in dogfights.

3. It can operate in all weather conditions and has the ability to identify targets even in bad weather.

4. It can be equipped with air-to-air missiles like AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAM, guided bombs and 20mm rotary gun.

5. The cockpit design provides almost 360-degree visibility to the pilot.

6. It has a 30 degree inclined seat, which reduces the effect of G-Force on the pilot.
