Pakistan-Afghanistan tension: Taliban angry over TTP…
Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have once again reached a boiling point, with Pakistan on Friday summoning a senior Afghan diplomat, accusing the Afghan Taliban regime of allegedly supporting Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and expressing “serious concern” over the issue.
Islamabad: The tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan has once again reached a serious level. Pakistan has taken a tough stance on the Afghan Taliban government regarding the increasing activities of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Islamabad on Friday summoned a senior Afghan diplomat and lodged a formal protest and expressed “serious concern” over the ongoing terror attacks against Pakistan from Afghan soil. This development has come to light after the terrorist attack in North Waziristan, in which four Pakistani Army soldiers were killed.
North Waziristan attack became a cause of tension
According to Pakistan’s security establishment, the attack on a military camp located in North Waziristan is being attributed to the militants of Gul Bahadur group linked to TTP. After this attack, Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of supporting TTP and providing safe havens. Islamabad says that terrorist networks operating from across the Afghan border remain a serious threat to Pakistan’s security.
The Pak Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Afghan Deputy Mission Chief was summoned to the Foreign Ministry and a strong objection was lodged. According to the statement, Pakistan has expressed serious concern over the alleged aid and facilities being provided to the TTP by the Afghan Taliban regime. The ministry said that due to this support, TTP terrorists are being able to attack Pakistani security forces and civilians in the Pakistan-Afghan border and surrounding areas.
Reference to international commitments
Pakistan clearly said that the favorable environment being provided to TTP in Afghanistan is against Kabul’s international commitments. Islamabad reminded that the Taliban government had promised that Afghan soil would not be allowed to be used for terrorist activities against any country. Pakistan alleges that the current situation is contrary to these promises and is causing serious harm to regional stability.
Islamabad has demanded the Afghan Taliban regime to conduct a thorough investigation and take decisive action against the criminals and their associates involved in the terrorist attacks against Pakistan carried out from Afghan soil. Pakistan also urged that immediate, concrete and verifiable steps be taken against all terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan, so as to effectively curb cross-border terrorism.
Pakistan has also conveyed a message to the Taliban government that it reserves the right to take all necessary steps to protect its sovereignty and citizens. This statement is being seen as a warning in diplomatic language. Pakistan made it clear that if terrorism emanating from Afghan soil continues, it will take all necessary measures to respond to it.
