As soon as the eyes were opened, Pakistan fired missiles on Afghanistan, killing about 17 people in Ramzan.
Pakistan Tension has once again deepened on the border between India and Afghanistan. On Sunday, Pakistan claimed that its army had carried out “targeted strikes” on terrorist bases operating in areas bordering Afghanistan. These attacks are being seen as a response to the increased terrorist activities within Pakistan in recent times.
However, controversy has also arisen regarding these military operations. Afghan media reports have claimed that several members of the same family were killed in these early morning attacks, which has increased both humanitarian concerns and diplomatic tensions. Official confirmation regarding the number of casualties is still pending from both the countries.
Which terrorist organizations were targeted?
Pakistan’s Information Ministry issued a statement saying that these operations were based on intelligence and selective. According to the ministry, several camps associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State were targeted in these attacks. Officials say elements involved in recent terrorist attacks were targeted. These also include a suicide bombing near the Afghan border, in which 11 soldiers and a child were killed. Apart from this, two security personnel were martyred in the attack in Bannu. Pakistan claims that the sources of these attacks were linked to organizations active in Afghanistan.
What is the claim of Afghan media?
Islamabad has not shared the exact location of the attacks or other details related to the operation. However, according to Afghan media, these attacks were carried out in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. Afghan broadcaster Tolonews quoted local officials as saying “Pakistani forces targeted a civilian’s house in Behsud district of the province, resulting in 23 family members being buried under the debris. So far only four people have been rescued and the rescue operation is still ongoing.”
How many people lost their lives?
A social media account operating under the name ‘Afghanistan Defence’ claimed that 19 members of a family in Behsud district were present in the house at the time of the incident. According to the post, only two people survived while the rest died. The list of the dead has also been shared with this claim. However, these claims have not been confirmed yet and official figures are being awaited from the governments of both the countries.
