Betrayal from one’s own people! Pakistani soldier suffering in captivity of Baloch rebels, Munir refuses to recognize

Pakistan Army Hostage Crisis: Pakistan has once again betrayed its own men in uniform. The Pakistani Army has vehemently denied the existence of seven Pakistani soldiers held hostage by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a militant organization operating in Balochistan. This development has not only raised questions on Pakistan’s military transparency but has also made it clear that leaving its own soldiers in trouble unattended has been an old strategy of the Pakistani Army.

Ultimatum and Pakistan’s ‘Digital’ denied

The whole affair started on 14 February when BLA released pictures and videos claiming that it had captured seven Pakistani Army soldiers. The organization gave a direct ultimatum to Islamabad saying that if their comrades were not released by February 21, these seven soldiers would be killed.

As soon as the video surfaced, social media handles related to Pakistan Army’s Tenth Corps and ISPR became active. He termed these videos as ‘digital tampering’ and ‘fake’ Stating that he claimed that these people are not Pakistani soldiers.

emotional question of crying soldiers

The claims of the Pakistani Army were exposed when a new video of the hostage soldiers surfaced. In this video, seven people are seen sitting together and showing their army service cards to the camera. Constable Mohammad Shahram, an emotional soldier, shows his military identity card and National ID card and asks, ‘If these are not genuine then who issued them?’.

Shahram told that he is the eldest son of his family and the entire family including his disabled father is dependent on him. Apart from this, soldiers Didar Ullah and Usman have also shown their documents and declared themselves as serving soldiers.

Memories of 1999 Kargil refreshed

Defense experts say that this attitude of Pakistan is reminiscent of the Kargil war of 1999. Even at that time, Pakistan had denied the presence of its regular soldiers but later when dead bodies and evidence were found from the battlefield, it had to face huge embarrassment at the international level. Presently the army led by General Asim Munir is also waging the same ‘information war’ The strategy it is adopting is to first challenge the narrative, then manage public opinion and finally shirk institutional accountability.

February 21 deadline and increasing tension

As the deadline of 21st February is approaching, the threat to the lives of these soldiers is increasing. No formal statement has come from the Pakistan government yet, which is giving further strength to the speculations. The question is that if they are not soldiers then how did they get the real army documents? This crisis is no longer just a hostage crisis but has become a severe test of the credibility of the Pakistani military establishment and its morality towards its soldiers.
